Friday Club Night Support Assistant

We have an exciting opportunity for a volunteer Club Night Support Assistant to join our friendly volunteering team for a few hours once per month.

The Portland Club Night is a monthly social event with a live DJ, music, dancing and a licensed bar that sells food and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

We are a national charity and our vision is that all people with disabilities will have a lifetime of opportunity. Our club nights provide a perfect opportunity for our young people to enjoy a Club Night experience in a safe and supported environment.

What skills do I need?

Essential Skills:

  • Event Setup and Logistics: Ability to assist with preparing the venue for the club night, including setting up tables, chairs, and any other necessary equipment.
  • Customer Service: Friendly and approachable, capable of signing in customers, distributing tickets, and addressing any queries or issues during the event.
  • Event Support and Supervision: Provide general support throughout the evening, ensuring that the event runs smoothly and safely, including monitoring the environment and attendees.
  • Cleaning and Packing Away: Efficient in cleaning up and packing away equipment after the event, ensuring the space is left in good condition.
  • Support for DJ: Assist the DJ with tasks such as queuing songs and making microphone announcements to enhance the overall event experience.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and effective in interacting with attendees, the DJ, and other volunteers, ensuring smooth coordination and execution of the event.

Desirable Skills:

  • Basic Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with DJ equipment and sound systems to provide better support to the DJ.
  • Experience in Event Management: Previous experience in managing or assisting with social events can be beneficial.
  • First Aid Knowledge: Basic first aid skills to handle minor incidents or emergencies during the event.
  • Bar and Food Service: Experience in handling food and beverages, including knowledge of licensing requirements for serving alcohol.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to address and resolve any issues that arise during the event, ensuring minimal disruption.

The Friday Club Night Assistant role offers an exciting opportunity to support our monthly Club Night events at Portland College. Initially, you will be expected to volunteer one Friday per month, providing support for our vibrant social events featuring live music, dancing, and a licensed bar. Key Points: Current Schedule: The role requires your assistance on one Friday per month during term time. Your hours will be flexible from 4pm to 10pm, depending on your availability. Future Schedule (from 2025): Starting from 2025, the role will expand to two Fridays per month. This change will provide more opportunities for involvement and increased responsibility during our Club Night events. Event Duties: Your responsibilities will include setting up the venue, managing customer check-ins, supporting the DJ, and ensuring the event area is cleaned and packed away after the night concludes. This role is ideal for those looking to contribute to a fun and supportive environment while helping to create memorable experiences for our young people.
